Introduction: Dr GJ Joubert Primary School

Dr GJ Joubert Primary School in Strand in the Helderberg, has been one of the flagship schools on the project since 2106. Under the principalship of Mr MF Leukes, they have even made the 7o’clock news on TV! Watch the news clip here.
It is a departmental school with Afrikaans as teaching language. The school has opened preschool classes as there is a great demand. From Grade 1 to 7 there are 1288 learners enrolled this year and 41 educators. The school is hosted in a beautiful facebrick building with a separate activity centre/hall built adjacent to the school. They also have a science lab and computer room.
Mr Leukes once briefly shared some of the school’s history with us, including that he himself was a learner at this school while his father was the principal! This school has deep roots in this community and in the generations of families that have gone through the school. Mr Leukes is teaching his students’ children already. This just illustrates the far reaching affects a school’s actions and quality of service that it delivers, has on its community. The school is supported by various other organisations and individuals and they offer some extramural and enriching programmes for the children already.
We want to make DR GJ Joubert a Strong Schools Partnership School! They have the right leadership and team to engage in a whole school improvement program guided and facilitated by our professional industrial psychologists. The aim will be to build capacity within the school’s leadership, staff, processes and systems in order for the school, as organisation, to be able to absorb the support from outside and channel it effectively towards improved daily teaching and learning for the children. We believe in sustainably setting the school up for success – values such as ownership, stewardship, maintenance and excellence must ensure that whatever we invest in the school (money, time or goods), will yield a good return – this being quality education for every leaner, every day. The school is laying the foundation which will be there for the rest of these children’s lives. “Who will lay the foundations in DR GJ Joubert Primary with us?”
