  1. School History

Sir Lowry’s Pass Primary is situated in the small village of Sir Lowry’s Pass, about 7km outside Somerset West at the foot of the Hottentots Holland Mountains. Previously we used the local Methodist Church’s accommodation and was called Marsh Alistoun Methodist Primary. That school was started in 1842 when the missionaries educated the children of the freed slaves. On 7 July 1987 we moved to our new school building with a brand new name.

We are a Section 21 school and are rated as a P4 school. The school’s Language of Learning and Teaching is Afrikaans.

In 2023 we enrolled Grade 8 learners.

  1. National School Nutritional Programme (NSNP)

We work in collaboration with the Department regarding the NSNP. We are currently supplying 2 cooked meals a day for ± 600 learners. NGO’s also provide funding to assist in the short comings of the feeding programme.
