Masks for 9 primary schools’ learners
Strong Schools is mobilizing communities to provide two masks for each learner from 9 WCED primary schools during this covid-19 pandemic.
Whether schools will re-open soon, in phases, or only later in the year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) advises people of all ages to take steps to protect themselves from the covid-19 virus. Masks help to prevent the virus from spreading from person to person through coughing or sneezing. Also see this article on sacoronavirus.co.za.
We are assisting 9 primary schools in the Helderberg to provide enough masks for all their learners. Two masks per learner allows for alternating between wearing and washing. We have various sources providing masks but we also want to support the local communities and help them to take ownership of their schools, thus we are providing material for ladies from Strand, Temperance Town and Lwandle so far, to sew from their homes – these masks will cost us R15 per unit. If you are willing to sew at home and donate your masks to one of the schools, please let Caryn Maree know (strongschoolsza@gmail.com).
We will do 3 drives simultaneously for the 9 schools. To make donation quick and easy, you can click on these links to support your schools right now:
- Dr GJ Joubert, Temperance Town & Sir Lowry’s Primary Schools. They have a total of 3374 learners x 2 = 6748 masks.

We encourage the communities of these schools as well as other Helderberg communities to support this drive! In summary, you can help in these ways:
1) DONATE any amount of money via our GivenGain campaigns. R150 covers 5 children’s masks.
2) MAKE masks. If you and your friends want to sew a number of masks at home, please contact us! If more people make masks for the children, we have to raise less funds.
3) DONATE/GIVE materials or goods. Please contact us to make an arrangement. We also want to buy sanitizers, soap and disinfectants for the schools.
4) DONATE a larger amount of money. We would love to issue a tax rebate certificate to you or your company for your generous donation – please contact us for banking details (strongschoolsza@gmail.com).
