Our Literacy and Library Projects – The Foundation of a Nation of Readers.
Strong Schools Community Collaborative believes that despite several obstacles in the educational system, schools can promote learning, creativity and safety. If we all join hands, our classrooms will turn into beacons of hope. The Western Cape Education Department does not provide funding for school libraries. As a consequence of this, certain libraries don’t function properly. It is due to Strong Schools and numerous stakeholders who collaborated with us on the Library and Literacy programme at Dr. G.J Joubert Primary School is such a success story.
Through our joint efforts, Strong Schools could establish a fully functional library, with a library assistant. In February 2022, the DR GJ Joubert Primary School library was unveiled. The students now have the essentials for reading, access to books, as well as a safe space to study and do their schoolwork. Reading opens up a world of imagination to even the youngest minds, allowing children to venture beyond their local surroundings.
Another one of our schools that struggles with inadequate library facilities, is Christmas Tinto Primary School. Strong Schools partnered in fundraising efforts and is currently working with Breadline South Africa and other stakeholders to help establish a new library at Christmas Tinto Primary School.
Strong Schools is adamant that it takes a community to support the school and a village to raise a child. We appreciate the assistance and encouragement from several organisations. You can join our community by:
- Donating appropriate books to the schools.
- Volunteering to read to learners.
- Assisting with covering books.
- Donating money to support the library’s ongoing operations.
Our objective is to influence a new generation of readers, in order to grow a generation of thinkers with an endless imagination that could transform our country into a better place for good. Please feel free to reach out to us if you would like more information on the current projects, or if you would like to get involved. Through collaborative efforts, EVERY SCHOOL CAN BE A STRONG SCHOOL.
